Dewdney & Crowsnest Pass #911 “First Responders” was an Athearn Genesis Yellowbox kit that we painted in the customer’s desired freelance paint scheme. The job included:

  • Assembly of the Athearn Genesis Yellowbox kit
  • Custom paint
  • Custom decals
  • Custom LED lighting
  • 3D printed parts for missing kit pieces
  • ESU LokSound 5.0 Direct DCC decoder

The three colours on the locomotive’s body were chosen to represent each of the three First Responder professions, from front to back:

  • Blue for law enforcement
  • White for emergency medical services
  • Red for Fire services

3D Printed Part
The blower duct was missing from the kit, and Athearn no longer stocked spare parts for it, so we designed a new one from scratch.
3D part on model
The 3D printed blower duct on the model. The part is available from our 3D parts stores.
Stickers on model
Testing the position of the decals on the model using paper stickers. The three shields were later re-arranged.
Decal Sheet
We combined the DCP911 decals with those of other orders to save money and resources.
Blue Cab
The base paint is on the cab. We used readily available colours to reduce cost and time.
Locomotive Body
Red, white, and blue were chosen each to represent a primary colour of each of the three first responders professions.
Locomotive body top
The top of the engine and radiator sections were painted a dark grey.
Cab With Decals
Decaling and window frame highlighting is done on DCP 911’s cab.
Locomotive cab and nose
In respect to the purpose of the unit, the cab nose is the only location on the locomotive where the company’s name and logo appear.
Locomotive Body With Decals
DCP911’s service shields and lettering are in place.
Locomotive Frame Painted
DCP 911’s frame and underbody was painted silver, in a departure from the freelance road’s usual black painted frame and undercarriage.
