New Northwest Shortline motor, drive shafts, and universals for DCP 5249. We were not impressed with Intermountain’s mechanism designMost of the paint is stripped from the model shell, though some orange remains. The long hood now has all of it’s paint done, and decals are being applied. In addition to new paint and lighting, DCP 5249 received a new circuit board compatible with LokSound 5 21MTC DCC decoders. We didn’t equip it with all of the capable functions, though. The light shield for DCP 5249’s new class lights was specifically designed to prevent light penetration.Since the class lights were too close together on the model shell, we used fibre optics to get the light where we needed it to go.We used white paint to reduce light penetration and light bleed around the fiber optic tubes. The class light assembly (Light shield and circuit board) is mounted to the fibre optic tubes behind the cab wall, roughly under the inertial filter in the long hood.We did one more final test of the class lights before putting everything back together.Rear ditch lights are standard on this freelance railway’s hood units, so we had to install them on a shell that wasn’t designed for rear ditch lights. The customer wanted an “afterthought” feel to these lights, so they are mounted a little closer together than is standard.
